A particular trait of houses in Redland is the split level arrangement, usually occurring in the rear corner, it allows three storeys to be crammed into two. Its useful for creating an additional room, but makes the arrangement of modern livings spaces quite tricky. Our solution involves locating the kitchen in the lower level, and connecting the living space through a long and low slot cut into the wall. The dining table has been given its own elegant glazed box which provides the primary connection to the garden, and the ground floor has been finished with engineered hardwood. The entrance hall has been finished with handmade encaustic tiles, and the first floor bathroom and en-suite have also been reconfigured. The finished item is clean and crisp, and makes a beautiful and practical home for a busy modern family.
